Beyond Average

During this week we played Shorter for homecoming. It was a very exciting week with all of the activities and alumni coming in. Coach Wallace made sure we were focused on the game and not on all of the outside distractions. The stadium was packed out with fans! It was a very good game in all aspects. We played good offense, defense, and special teams. It was good to perform so well for our community. We won 41-0!

If there's one thing i've learned from observing people, it is that no matter where you start you can go as far as you want to go. You can start with more than you need and throw it all away with one dumb decision. On the other hand, you can start with nothing at all and turn it into riches just by committing yourself. The biggest step in achieving success is to have a plan. without a plan you cant go anywhere. Be whoever you want to be, but dont settle for average....BE GREAT!

Trust Him and Yourself

During this week Judge Self talked to us. I find it very interesting how he said to never let your guard down. That is perfect advice because you can NEVER fully depend on anyone except God and yourself....not everyone is who they say they are...you never know when someone will sneak up on you and get you. Another thing about being a judge is taking personal opinion out of a decision. I bet it is extremely hard to not let morals and ethical standards influence decisions. It takes courage to obey the law and make decisions based on the law.

During this week we played Delta State in Mississippi. I didnt get to travel to this game, so i decided to spend the weekend at my grandparents. They do everything in the world for me and i appreciate them for all that they do. It was great quality time with them. We won the game 20-12, so it made it an even better weekend.

STEM

During this weeks forum Dr. Calhoun talked about STEM. It is very disappointing hearing the statistics of our generation not pursuing degrees in STEM. I am a science major (chemistry), but I understand the fear that these degrees generally strike into people. It has a big part to do with our poor K-12 curriculum. He had some very wise words about the process of deciding a major. Luckily, I am very fortunate to have already figured out what I want to be in life, so I know the path I need to take.

We played Kentucky Christian University during this week. It was another home game. It is always a very exciting experience going through the Lion Walk. Thankfully, we won the game 39-0. This makes our record 2-1. My parents came to the game again from Tuscaloosa, so I am glad I got to see them.

Values

During the second week we talked about values in Honors Forum. Dr. Brewton put up a list of words, and our task was to compose a list of words that was important to us. My list included wisdom, power, ethical standards, accomplishment, courage, dedication, integrity, faith, health, and friendship. After that we were put into groups and narrowed down our choices. My group chose wisdom, courage, growth, health, independence, responsibility, and love. I agree with all of those choices. Values are a part of everyday life that we take for granted.

We played Harding this week at Home. It was my first college home game. Before the game we did the Lion Walk, and it was a very exciting experience. Unfortunately, we didnt win the game, but we did learn from our mistakes. My parents came to the game, so I got to see them afterwards. Overall, it was still a fun weekend.
